Power Outages Disrupt Danbury and New Fairfield, Connecticut

A cold winter's day brought more than a chill to residents of Danbury and New Fairfield, Connecticut, as hundreds of power outages were reported in the area. According to Eversource, the state's largest energy provider, over 3,200 customers were without power on Tuesday morning. By 10:15 a.m., Eversource reported 3,273 outages, with the majority concentrated in New Fairfield (1,626) and Danbury (1,278).

Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves confirmed around 10:10 a.m. that approximately 3,000 customers in the city were without power, attributing the issue to a problem at the Middle River Substation. The outages came as meteorologists predicted a cold day with temperatures in the teens and 20s, but wind chills near single digits. By 10:30 a.m., Eversource reported that the New Fairfield outages had been resolved, leaving 1,225 outages statewide, with 860 in Danbury.

The cause of the outages was identified as equipment damage, with an estimated restoration time of 12:45 p.m. United Illuminating, serving over a dozen communities in Connecticut, reported one outage in Milford at around 10:25 a.m., adding to the disruption. This incident highlights the vulnerability of the power grid during extreme weather conditions and the importance of prompt restoration efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of residents.
