AI: A Game-Changer or a Threat? One Marketer's Story.
Imagine having more time to pursue your passions and explore new ideas, all thanks to artificial intelligence. For Komal Amin, that's exactly what happened when she joined Mighty Bear Games, an innovative gaming studio with a unique AI mandate. But here's where it gets controversial: is AI a friend or foe in the workplace?
Komal's journey began with a passion for acting, but a twist of fate led her to marketing and, eventually, Mighty Bear Games. When she joined the company in 2024, she was both excited and daunted by the prospect of using AI tools. With a non-technical background, she initially found the idea intimidating. However, witnessing her colleagues' success with AI inspired her to take the plunge.
"I saw people doing amazing things with AI, and it motivated me to explore further. I discovered tools like Lindy, which allowed me to automate mundane tasks and focus on creativity," Komal explains.
One of her biggest pain points was monthly reporting and invoicing. With the help of AI agents, she automated these tasks, freeing up valuable time for market research and exploring new ideas. Komal also developed a 'sentiment scraper' to understand people's perceptions of Telegram, a key platform for Mighty Bear Games' gaming experiences.
But it's not all smooth sailing. Komal acknowledges the downsides of AI, from hallucinations to the fear of job displacement. "It would be naive to say I'm not worried about AI taking jobs," she admits. However, she remains cautiously optimistic, believing that human expertise and critical thinking are still essential.
"AI isn't great at everything. If you're using it to create memes without understanding the source content, how can you be sure it's funny?" she questions. Komal suggests a balanced approach, using AI as a tool to enhance, not replace, human creativity and critical thinking.
In her personal life, Komal has found AI to be a helpful assistant, from stock trading advice to planning romantic dates with her partner. "I love experimenting with new tools and finding ways to make my life easier," she says.
So, is AI a game-changer or a threat? Komal's story highlights the potential of AI to enhance productivity and creativity, but also the need for human oversight and expertise. As she puts it, "Thanks to AI, I have more hours in the day to follow my passions. But we must remember that AI is a tool, and we need to set the right guardrails."
