The End of an Iconic Hollywood Marriage
In a surprising turn of events, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, one of the entertainment industry's most beloved power couples, have officially called it quits. Their divorce, which was finalized recently, marks the end of a 19-year journey that captivated fans worldwide.
A Nashville judge, Stephanie J Williams, presided over the hearing, granting the divorce based on the couple's mutual agreement regarding asset division and child custody. The judge's decision was clear: "Irreconcilable differences" had rendered their marriage "impractical and impossible" to continue.
Both Kidman and Urban, now legally single, waived their right to attend the hearing. Kidman had initiated the divorce proceedings in September, and all legal matters, including asset distribution and custody, were settled and signed on the day of her filing.
But here's where it gets controversial... Tennessee law requires a 90-day waiting period for divorces involving minor children. Kidman and Urban, both 58, have two teenage daughters, and their divorce filing cited "marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences."
The plan they signed indicates that Kidman will be the primary residential parent, and it's likely the family will remain in Nashville, their longtime home. The filing also states that neither parent will require child or spousal support, and their joint assets will be divided equally.
And this is the part most people miss... Kidman and Urban, two of Australia's biggest exports, met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year. They were a fixture on the red carpet throughout their two-decade relationship, with Urban supporting Kidman at the Oscars and Kidman attending music events like the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Despite publicly acknowledging some marital challenges, the divorce came as a surprise to many. It was Urban's first marriage, while Kidman had previously been married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. Kidman also has two older children with Cruise.
