A 36-year-old man from Footscray was arrested in connection with a suspicious fire that broke out at a church in Melbourne's west overnight. The Maidstone church, a single-story weatherboard building, was reported to Fire Rescue Victoria just after 1 am, with firefighters arriving to find the front section of the building engulfed in flames. The fire had already spread to the roof, but the brave firefighters managed to bring it under control within just six minutes. Despite the swift response, the front wall and roof space sustained significant damage. Police are treating the fire as suspicious and have not ruled out any possibilities, including the involvement of the arrested individual. It is important to note that no one was inside the church when the fire started, according to the authorities.
